Go To Make-Up Products of 2017

Having a quick make-up routine is essential for me, especially when I'm going to work. I like to keep things quite wearable and minimal, enhancing my natural features rather than changing them. Everybody's make-up routine is completely different and I always find it interesting to know what other girls are using and especially what tips and tricks they have for making their make-up last for as long as possible. Having oily skin means that by the end of a full working day, my make-up is already sliding off my face - bringing out all the texture in my skin and illuminating my t-zone in a very unflattering way. I know we all love a bit of highlighter but we don't want to shine, we want to glow. By 6pm when my working day is finished, I am shining not glowing. So if anybody has any tips on setting sprays or powders that keep your make-up on all day then please do let me know!

The products that I use are simple. After cleansing and moisturising my face, I go straight in with a tinted moisturiser. The one I use at the moment is from NARS in the shade Seychelles - very fitting seeing as I am from the Seychelles! This just makes me love it even more as they have got the shade absolutely perfect. This tinted moisturiser is super lightweight on the skin, very easy to blend and it has an SPF in it too. Bear in mind that if you like coverage, this probably isn't the one for you. The coverage is extremely light, as in it will not cover any spots or blemishes, but it does give you a nice even base to work off.

I then go in with a concealer - again from NARS. I use both their Radiant Creamy (I use the shade caramel for highlighting) and their Stick Concealer in the shade Amande. For everyday, I use the stick concealer. It's so easy to apply, very creamy and I like that you can control the amount of product that you're putting on. With the radiant creamy concealer, I find that you have to do a lot of blending to get it looking nice and seamless. The consistency is a little bit thicker and it has a fuller coverage than the stick. I tend to only use this one for nights out to get a nice bright under eye.

If you have a deeper skin tone, then NARS, Estee Lauder and Lancôme are the best brands I've found for foundations and concealers. They have a range of different undertones (pink, yellow, red etc) and their shade ranges are so big. Fenty is great too, but unfortunately I don't like the formula of their foundation. Although the coverage is absolutely amazing and the finish is flawless, I find that it dries down too quickly, giving you no chance to blend it out!

After my base is complete, I set everything down with the Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Setting Powder in Medium Deep. This is what really takes my base from looking smooth to flawless. It adds a tiny bit of extra coverage and it literally feels like silk on your skin. I like to use this powder with foundations that have a slightly cooler undertone. I wouldn't use it with my Lancôme Teint Idole (I wear Shade 10, Praline, but this is slightly too dark for me) foundation for example, as this is already very warm on my skin and it doesn't need the extra coverage. I find that this powder doesn't make my make-up stay on all day, however, I adore the way that it stops my concealer from creasing and gives my skin a perfect finish.

For brows, I use the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in the deep brown colour. I think it's the one before the black shade in their range. I don't set my brows or put concealer around them - this just takes too long and I can't really be bothered!

For eyes, I don't always wear an eyeshadow, but if I do it's something from the Nyx Ultimate Basics Warm Neutrals palette. I think this palette is a perfect dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Heat or the Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions palette. I personally couldn't justify £40 on the Urban Decay one. And the Huda Beauty one looked the same as the Nyx one, which retails for just £16. Trust me this palette is such a dream for warm eye looks. It's got a great mix of mattes and shimmers, neutrals and bolder colours (well bold for me anyway!) and the pigmentation is pretty amazing too.

There is one mascara that I have been using for about 2 or 3 years now and that is my trusty Maybelline Lash Sensational/Luscious. The Luscious one was released quite recently (black packaging instead of the pearly pink one) and it does absolute wonders for elongating every single one of my lashes. It also makes them super black and glossy without clumping. However recently, I've been using the L'Oréal Telescopic - just because so many people rave about it and I wanted to try it out for myself. What I will say about this is that you know when you first start using a mascara and you have to give it a few goes before you actually see the true results? I saw results from the first application with the L'Oréal Telescopic. It makes your lashes super long and it doesn't clump. However, it doesn't give me as many lashes as my Maybelline Lash Sensational, so although it's really good, it's not one that I would go back and buy repeatedly. Whereas I have gone through tube after tube of the Lash Sensational! I either apply a thin line of eyeliner to my eyes and then put mascara on or I go without - just depends on the day.

I don't like leaving the house without blush. As I don't contour my face, it's one of the only things that adds some dimension and colour. I use the Nyx Baked Blush in Ignite/Passion and have been doing so for years. It's just a nice pink colour and if you're light handed it can look very natural. I have stopped highlighting recently as I just haven't really found a deep golden shade that I love. I also find that more affordable highlighters aren't finely milled enough, so they bring out a lot of texture in my skin and I hate that look. Any recommendations on this would be welcome.

Finally, I always use a lip balm before applying any lipsticks/lip liners or lip-glosses. I will never leave the house for work without wearing my MaxFactor Colour Elixir lip gloss in the shade Chocolate Nectar. It is my perfect pinkish nude and since I found it I haven't stopped wearing it. I actually had to hunt it down online because it was sold out in almost every Boots store I went into. The combo I've been loving at the moment is using this gloss with the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in the shade Foxy Brown. I use that all over the lips and then put the lip gloss on top. Dream combo!
