20 Random Questions With Tan

Today was one of those tedious days off that I had to spend organising my life. I switched my second Instagram account to a blogging profile, which you can follow here. I also had to create a Facebook page in order to do that. I don't really post on Facebook too much but I'll try to use it more often now that it's linked to my Instagram. If you want to follow my facebook page, then I'll put in a handy link to it here.

I wasn't really sure what to post about this week until I went through all of my posts this morning and realised that I don't have anything very personal on this blog. I did a Q&A some years ago now, but my readership has since increased considerably and I thought it was about time I did an updated one. I'm just going to be using a random question generator off Google, avoiding the boring and obvious ones like my age, where I went to uni, what's my favourite food etc. You can find out all of that info by reading my previous posts!

What is the best part of your day?

The best part of my day is when I catch the 6.05pm tube after work. I always have to run from work to the station to get it but once I'm on it I just feel so relieved. I know that I'll be home by 6.35, can run myself a nice hot bath and be in bed and relaxing by 7.30. Ideal!

If you were invisible for a day, what would you do?

This is a really difficult one but I think I would go to an airport and jump on a flight to a random destination. I really want to travel and I never get to because my friends are always so unreliable (sorry girls, you know you are!). Obviously after 24 hours I would then become visible and have to pay for a flight back but at least I would have saved some money and even if for some reason I couldn't get back then I guess it would be an adventure? I don't know, I don't want to overthink this!

If you were the opposite gender for a day what would you do?

I would obviously pee standing up! I don't think there is much else boys or men can do that I can't so once I'd done that I'd probably just ask to be changed back into a girl because we are way more fun and way more interesting anyway. Duh.

If there was an extra hour every day, what would you do?

I would sleep - obviously. Or I would play The Sims because I always need an extra hour to finish building and furnishing all of my many houses! I am obsessed with The Sims and have currently played 1931 hours of it which is crazy I know.

What it something that makes you smile?

So many things make me smile! I'm always laughing or smiling to myself about something funny that's happened in my head. But something that is guaranteed to make me smile are all the little cat videos I see on Instagram. My sister and I just spend our time sending cat videos to each other and it's bloody brilliant.

What do you like to do on a rainy day?

I like to be snuggled up in my bed with a book listening to my Chill playlist on Spotify. My taste in music is really diverse. One minute I'm aggressively rapping along to Cardi B and the next I'm humming along to Lucy Rose and The Fray. My favourite artist to listen to on a rainy day is definitely Tom Odell though.

What kind of music do you like to listen to?

I basically just answered this by rambling in the last question. I'll insert a little screenshot of the most recent songs on my playlist right now just below. They're pretty much all pop/rap at the moment, but as I said in the previous question I like listening to mellow, relaxing music too.

What is the biggest physical challenge you have faced?

Starting full time work - exhausting. My days at uni were spent in bed with the curtains closed 90% of the time so it was a huge change for me. Although I don't know if that counts as a physical challenge, so if not then definitely starting to lift weights at the gym. Walking home feeling like someone has glued your legs together is definitely a challenge and it's one that you never really overcome either because you're constantly pushing yourself to lift heavier.

Would you rather be rich and ugly or poor and good looking?

I think I would rather be rich and ugly because looks aren't everything. Even though money isn't everything either, being successful is such a huge part of my ambition and having a lovely personality would mean that my looks wouldn't matter too much anyway? Then again if I was good looking, in this society, I could probably make a lot of money off my looks. But then again, I'd just rather be recognised for my intelligence than my looks.

What do you do when you're bored?

When I was younger I had a lot of different lessons in quite a few different things, so you wouldn't expect me to be stuck on things to do. I had baritone lessons, ballet lessons at The Royal Academy of Dance, steel pans lessons, horse riding lessons, guitar lessons, singing lessons and piano lessons. Those are all things I should be really skilled at now but it's pretty much only the last two that have actually stuck. Yet when I'm bored, I don't really do anything. I just feel like I have to leave the house. I just cannot stay indoors these days whereas a couple of years ago you couldn't get me outside if I didn't need to be! I just get really bad cabin fever, feel really claustrophobic and feel like I need to be active and go and do something. Whether that's going for a walk, going to the gym, meeting a friend. I just have to be doing something. Alternatively I just go to my sister's room and harass her with stories about my life before I finally decide to go out.

What do you think your life will look like in 10 years?

So in ten years I'll be 32. Wow that sounds crazy. But I think I'll be at the height of my career. I'll be managing something, whether that's something I've created myself or it's a senior position within a creative company (fashion, beauty, interior design) on the digital/content creation side of things. Hopefully, I would be married although if I'm not, oh well. I'll be driving an Audi Q7 and I'll have a house in the countryside or be in a position where I am looking to buy one.

What is the one thing that you would like to change about the world?

This one's easy, I would just remove all prejudices from the world. Racism and homophobia really grate on me and I think that pretty much all prejudice stems from a lack of education. Or a refusal to be educated. I think that people feel threatened by the things they don't know enough about but are also afraid of gaining the knowledge that could potentially change their outlook on something. If we could all just take some time to learn a bit more about each other's differences and to not feel negatively about them but to embrace them instead, then the world would be a much more welcoming place.

Is it harder to exercise more or eat healthier?

It's definitely harder to eat healthier. I exercise pretty much everyday even if that isn't by going to the gym. I'll always do some sort of mini workout in my room or something. But when it comes to eating healthy I just can't do it. I crave chocolate like it's air.

What website do you visit the most?

Pretty Little Thing or ASOS. And then I just add loads of things to my basket, which usually takes me about 2-3 hours. By the time I've finished and checked my basket, the total is well into the three digit mark and I have to give myself a reality check. No you cannot afford this whole order. No you cannot afford even part of this order. Yes you will close the tab and move on.

Do you believe in luck?

No I don't think I do. I believe far too much in hard work equalling results. I don't think you can just get lucky, I think it's always for a reason.

What was your least favourite job that you've had?

When I worked at Debenhams during my second year of uni. I was getting paid something like £5.10 an hour. I was bored out of my brain every shift because I worked for a concession brand called Jacques Vert. Jacques Vert is basically where your mum and your grandmother will go to get their outfits for your wedding, for Ascot for any kind of fancy occasion. I couldn't connect with the customers, I couldn't connect with the staff that well because we had nothing in common. I only had one real friend in my concession. I made friends from other brands in the store but I wasn't really allowed to talk to them and my brand was so far into the corner of the store that I was literally on my own for pretty much the whole day. Especially on the Sundays when I had to work by myself.

If you could start any business, what would it be?

I would start an interior design company. I love decorating things and I think it would be quite fun. There's just so much you can do with it. Plus, everyone needs furniture, fixtures and fittings, paint, wallpaper so I don't think it could go wrong. I follow a lot of design pages on Instagram for home inspiration. Some of my favourites are @dreaminteriors @interior123 and @shabbyyhomes. And obviously pinterest.

Where did you go on your last vacation?

Literally wish I didn't have to answer this, but I went to Universal Studios in Orlando and that was in 2010. So yes, I have not been on holiday in 8 years. If anybody wants to go on holiday with me, then please get in touch. I am currently accepting all invitations.

What do you wear to sleep?

A t-shirt.

What are some things that you should not say at a job interview?

That you're hardworking and eager to learn new skills because that is what everybody says! I guess you should just say why you really want the job and if you don't really want the job, then practice lying convincingly beforehand with some unique phrases so that you don't falter on the spot!
